Abstract:
The problem. Alcohol use and abuse among
adolescents is a serious and complex social problem.
Procedure. This paper studies the relationship
between adolescent drinking and the influences exerted from peers, parents, and personality factors. A questionnaire was designed and distributed to 205 high school freshmen to examine these relationships.
Findinqs. Results suggested that the influence of
peers was the strongest determinant in an adolescent's decision to drink alcohol.
Recommendations. Further research needs to be
done with a more diverse group of adolescents as the data was collected from a non-representative sample.
