Abstract:
Oxidation of alkenes using dioxirane system generated from 1,3-dichloroacetone and oxone produces good to excellent yields of epoxide products. The reaction system is facile, mild, efficient and safe. Our experimental results of 1:1 competitive epoxidation reactions involving styrene substrate and its derivatives will be presented to demonstrate sensitivity of the dioxirane epoxidation system to the polarity & ionizability of the pi bonds in the substrates.
